The 13th National Conference, organized by the Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIRA) in collaboration with The Rationalists’ Forum, Tamil Nadu, will be held on 28th and 29th December 2024 at the Periyar Centenary Educational Complex, K.K. Nagar, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. This prestigious event, focusing on Humanists, Rationalists, Atheists, and Free Thinkers, promises to bring together like-minded individuals and organizations to discuss and promote scientific temper, secular values, and rational thinking.
Theme:
“Endless Journey Towards a Secular and Scientific Tempered Society”
The conference will cover a wide array of critical issues under this broad theme, reflecting the ongoing quest for a society rooted in reason, rationality, and humanism. The sub-themes of the conference will include:
- Centenary of Periyar’s Self Respect Movement
- Impact of New Criminal Laws on Rationalists, Activists, and Citizens
- The Letter and Spirit of Article 51A(h) of the Indian Constitution
- Women and Superstitions
These sessions will provide a platform to delve deeper into contemporary challenges and the steps that can be taken to promote a more rational, inclusive, and scientifically-minded society.
Call for Papers
Participants are encouraged to submit papers for oral presentation on the sub-themes mentioned above. The last date for submission of papers is 17th November 2024, with a word limit of 2500 words. Authors will be informed of their selection for presentation by 30th November 2024.
Accommodation and Travel
The organizing committee has arranged dormitory-style accommodation for delegates at a nominal fee of INR 600, which includes meals. Other accommodation options in Tiruchirappalli are available, ranging from INR 1500 to INR 5000 per day.
Travel to the conference venue is convenient, with Tiruchirappalli International Airport only 7 km away. The city is also well-connected by rail and road. Volunteers will be available to assist delegates in reaching the venue.
Registration Information
The registration fee for the conference is INR 700, which includes food, delegate kits, badges, and handouts. Delegates can register online or submit the form via mail. The last date for registration is 7th December 2024, and detailed instructions for registration are available on the official conference communication.
